The Alhamra set

I decided to reinterpret this grouping of tables as a completed set of 3 scaled tables that can nest, stack, and cascade. Made in walnut and based on the architecture of the Moorish and Almoravid empires of Al Andulus, Morocco, and the African Coast. I Named the set the Al-Hamra set or طاولات قلعة الحمراء named for the seat of Moorish Power in Al Andulus the Alhamra, located in Grenada Spain (or in Spanish Alhambra)

The smallest table has a gold interior to evoke the elaborate often gilded interiors common in Almoravid and Moorish Architecture, the middle is beaded along its corners to delineate and define the form, and the largest has an inset frieze surrounding the keyhole arch in which I textured and stippled the surface then applied a turquoise glaze to the textured surface to evoke the mosaic found in the frieze of many facades in Islamic architecture, specifically found on grand mosques, such as the Almoravid Kutubiyya Mosque (جامع الكتبية) in Marrakesh
